The apparatus relates to a low-cost and rugged apparatus for the assessment of damage to a ship and to the ship's hull in particular. By means of parallel optical fibres running along the ship's hull, breaks are detected, which serve to accurately determine the location and extent of the damage. The optical fibres are moreover used for detecting seats of fire and for conveying operator-induced alarm signals.

On décrit un dispositif bon marché et robuste d'évaluation d'un dommage subi par un bateau et notamment d'un dommage survenu au niveau de la coque de celui-ci. A l'aide de fibres optiques parallèles disposées le long de la coque du bateau, on peut détecter des brèches, ces fibres permettant de déterminer avec précision l'emplacement et l'étendue du dommage. En outre, on utilise les fibres optiques pour détecter des foyers d'incendie et pour transmettre des signaux d'alarme provoqués par un opérateur.
