ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A preheated fuel-air mixture is ignited, the flame is scanned, the burning mixture is introduced into the free upper level of a radiation substance charge, it is passed around heat exchange surfaces, and a glowing flameless combustion zone is produced in the charge; beyond this zone the combustion gases are passed around heat exchange surfaces having increased area, with changed rate of flow. The apparatus is equipped with an ignition and flame scanning gap above this charge and with heat exchange tubes, divided into several branches past said glowing zone.
