An apparatus for the controlled delivery of nicotine comprising a pressure sensitive adhesive nicotine reservoir with uniform or irregular nicotine distribution is disclosed. The reservoir is produced using a hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive with a processing temperature of about 40 to 80°C, preferably about 40 to 60°C and in the particularly preferred manner about 40 to 55°C. The apparatus may be used in human or veterinary medicine, particularly for stopping people from smoking, or as a respiratory, contact or stomach poison for pest control. A process for the production of the inventive apparatus is also disclosed.
