ABSTRACT The specification describes an apparatus for the edge grinding of a glass pane which includes a tool carrier, a grinding tool mounted on the tool carrier and means for mounting the tool carrier for movement in longitudinal directions relative to the edge of the glass pane thereby to locate the grinding tool against the edge. The apparatus also includes pressure appara- tus for determining the amount of contact pressure exer- ted by the grinding tool in grinding along the edge of the pane. The pressure apparatus includes an electric torque motor, means for developing a trigger signal for operating the electric torque motor and coupling means for coupling an output of the electric torque motor to the tool carrier.
