ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification describes a machine for the manu- facture of laminar creped tissue suitable for sanitary products such as facial and bathroom tissue, from papermaking fibers suspended in aqueous stock, the machine including a forming section having an inlet and a forming wire for forming a web and a creping section including a creping roll, means for carrying the web from the forming wire to the creping roll and a creping blade bearing against the creping roll for creping the web therefrom. The sections serve to form a fibrous web having a laminar construction wherein the outer layer of fibers has interfiber bonds which are distributed uniformly throughout the outer layer and are stronger than the interfiber bonds throughout the intermediate section of the web between the layer and the other side of the web whereby during creping of the web from the roll, the outer layer of fibers tends to shear away from the other side of the web along the plane of the intermediate section of the web.
