14746 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A wet scrubber for scrubbing particles from an industrial gas is provided with a discharge electrode assembly to charge the particle before they meet an atomizing spray. The column is dimensioned for a gas velocity of 5 to 30 m/sec., the effective length of the discharge electrode is 15 to 40 cm, and the applied voltge is 20,000 to 70,000 V and a venturi scrubber may be provided downstream of the atomizing nozzle arrangement.
