ABSTRACT An apparatus for transporting articles at regular intervals on a chain conveyer, which is devised to stop every article at a number of prescribed positions simultaneously and also convey every article simultaneously, said apparatus comprising: main stop assemblies disposed along a side of the fore end portion of each stop position for the article, and connected to a driving member so as to advance into and retreat from the path of conveyance of the article; gripping assemblies disposed along the side of the rear end portion of the article at its stop position relative to the path of travel thereof and pivotally supported by biassing at the front of the region of movement of the article there- by to let the article pass along the path of travel thereof but prevent it from moving in a reverse direction, and sensors for sensing the article before its arrival at each stop position thereby to actuate said driving member for the main stop assembly and signal to advance the main stop assembly into the region of movement of the article.
