ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides an apparatus for treating the surface of articles such as foils, plates or molded articles by electric corona discharge. The apparatus comprises a first electrode at one side of the articles for guiding articles to be treated and at least one facing discharge electrode at the other side of the articles. The facing discharge electrode has a quartz coating and is adapted for connection to an opposite potential and arranged to be cooled by a cooling air flow flowing over the outside thereof. The facing discharge electrode forms part of a wall of an air exhausting pipe and guide means are provided for guiding the cooling air flow at least partly through the corona along the active discharging side of the discharge electrode.
