Abstract An apparatus for treating with acoustic waves or mechanical vibrations and diagnosing a patient comprises a treatment head with a sound or vibration source which is con- nectable to a generator with variable frequency. The apparatus comprises at least a first sensor which measures the heart rate of the patient before and after the treatment, wherein the frequency of the generator is adjustable in dependence on the change of the heart rate as a result of the treatment.
