ABSTRACT This invention relates to apparatus for use in a solar heating system comprising a collector, The apparatus includes a housing (50) having spaced ends. At least one sheet of light transmitting material (92, 94) covers the housing to admit light to the interior of the housing, and otherwise generally isolates the interior of the housing from the surrounding atmosphere. Means (72, 74) are proyided within the housing fox defining a cavity capable of holding a heat transfer fluid. A light absorbing surface (82) is presented toward the light transmitting sheet on the housing for absorbing heat from the sun's rays that enter the housing through the light transmitting material. A supply pipe (86) extends generally from one end of the housing to the other end and is accessible from each end of the housing. The supply pipe communicates with one region of the cavity. A drain pipe (86) extends from one end of the housing to the other end and also is accessible from each end of the housing, The drain pipe communicates with the cavity at a region thereof that is remote from the region at which the supply pipe communi- cates with the cavity. Preferably, there is provided a manifold (11) including a pressure pipe (136) having a supply fitting (146), and a return pipe (138) alongside the pressure pipe and having a drain fitting (150); and first and second coupling means (106,154) for connect- ing the supply pipe (86) and supply fitting (146) and the drain pipe (86) and drain fitting (150) respective
