ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention discloses an apparatus for welding of stiffners to a plate where the stiffeners preferably have been tack welded to the plate in advance. The apparatus comprises a plurality of guiding devices for welding electrodes characterized in that the guiding devices are connected to a suction box which extends in the longitudinal direction of the stiffener and which is equipped with a slot into which the stiffener at least partially extends. The suction box is equipped with means for its positioning and for fixing with respect to the stiffener. The apparatus will have use in the ship building industry and reduce certain hazards and deficiencies of methods presently being used.
