ABSTRACT Apparatus for withdrawing a stack of bags of plastic film from a partly overlying stack as it is built up comprises a conveyor belt for intermittently conveying the completed stacks, a carriage, which is movable on tracks which are parallel to the direction of conveyance of the conveyor belt, pressure-applying members, which are mounted in said carriage and adapted to be lifted and lowered and to be controlled in such a manner that they can be lowered onto the exposed leading end portion of the underlying stack when the same has been arrested with the conveyor belt and is to be withdrawn, wherein the pressure-applying members are subsequently movable in the direction of conveyance of the conveyor belt in unison with the intermittent movement of said belt and the pressure-applying members are adapted to be lifted from the withdrawn stack in order to terminate the withdrawing movement, which apparatus also comprises drive means for moving the carriage opposite to the direction of conveyance of the conveyor belt and means for clamping the carriage to the conveyor belt. The structure is simplified in that the drive means for moving the carriage serve also to move the carriage in the direction of conveyance of the conveyor belt and that the intermittent motion is imparted to the conveyor belt by the carriage when the latter has been clamped to the conveyor belt.
