ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for panoramic X-ray photography of the area of the dentition and the jaws, has a bearing part linearly movable in relation to a frame part, and a support arm rotatably attached by bearings to the bearing part, the arm having at one end an X-ray film and at the opposite end a source of X-radiation. The movements of the bearing part, the support arm and the film are mutually synchronized in such a way that an image of an area of the desired shape, for example the shape of the patient's dental arch, is obtained on the film during the movement. The enlargement coefficient can be altered and the X-ray beam can be tilted to the desired angle in relation to the horizontal plane, whereby it will be possible to photograph more sharply than previously, for example, teeth oblique in relation to the vertical level. The support arm is attached to the bearing part by structural parts which are equipped with guides extending longitudinally of the support arm so that the support arm can be transferred in a direction parallel to the X-ray beam. Furthermore, the structural parts have curved rails, mutual movement of which affects the tilt of the support arm. The adjustment movements are preferably effected by stepping motors.
