A system and method for providing emergency travel medical coverage to a customer, including means for receiving an application for emergency travel medical coverage from the customer, the application containing customer information, means for processing the application from the customer, configured to record, in at least one database, a customer data record containing the customer information associated with the application, and selectively approve the customer for emergency travel medical coverage based on a risk analysis performed on the customer data record, and means for administering the emergency travel medical coverage for approved customers, said means configured to define a guaranteed coverage term having at least one renewal period, define a maximum permitted trip duration, define a geographic territory, calculate a premium to be paid in relation to the at least one renewal period, receive the premium in association with at least one particular renewal period, and, for each renewal period in which the premium has been received, provide emergency travel medical coverage to the customer for covered events that occur during that particular renewal period while the customer is traveling outside of the geographic territory for a duration less than the maximum permitted trip duration.
