ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure relates to a process for artificially accelerating the tanning of the skin of a person. It comprises the steps of providing a source of ultraviolet-infrared rays which is suitable for inducing artificial tanning; placing the source of ultraviolet-infrared rays close to an area of the skin which is intended to be tanned; directing the rays on the area of the skin for a short period of time; providing a flow of air at a higher degree of humidity than the ambient air and causing the flow of humidified air to circulate over the area of the skin on which the rays are directed. The invention also relates to an apparatus for tanning skin which comprises a source of ultraviolet infrared rays which is suitable for inducing artificial suntanning; means for mounting that source of ultraviolet-infrared rays close to an are of the skin which is intended to be tanned; means to direct the rays on that area of the skin to be tanned, means for providing a strong flow of air, means for humidifying the flow of air and means for causing the flow of humidified air to circulate over the area of the skin on which the rays are directed.
