-1- "APPARATUS TO MONITOR ELECTRICAL CABLES, INCLUDING SPLICE JOINTS AND THE LIKE, FOR THE INGRESS OF MOISTURE" ABSTRACT The invention relates to the monitoring of electrical cables for the presence of moisture within the cable system. A means is disclosed whereby an electrical cable system is electronically monitored and the condition of the electrical cable system continuously signalled to a remote equipment office. Should moisture enter the cable at a breach in the physical outer protection, an alarm is signalled remotely and the location of the breach is identified. The electronic monitoring and protection system described may be used on conventional telephone cable to monitor splice points, repeater sites and other critical locations or on specially designed cable to monitor the cable system along its entire length. As the invention thus described is electronic by design considerable flexibility exists for application in any physical system where the environment is of concern to the integrity of the system.
