The invention relates to a device and method for securely dispensing items with a monetary value. A signatured release message contains a total value of the items to be dispensed. A verifier checks the signature and the total value is compared with the sum of the values of the items to be dispensed. In the event that, based on the comparison and checking of the signature, the signature is invalid or the total value is smaller than the sum, a blocking signal is generated, blocking the dispensing of the items from a dispensing opening.
