A method of attaching a waistband to a garment is disclosed which comprises providing a strip (26) of waistband fabric having outer portions more extensible than the centre section, and presenting the fabric to a sewing machine through a folder (18) for attachment to a garment, characterised in that the folder is angled to the sewing zone (16) whereby to force the outer sections of the waistband strip to proceed faster than the central section resulting in a curve being formed during attachment to the garment. Since the strip does not have a shape until it is treated in accordance with the invention, it may be provided on a reel for continuous operation. Moreover, the angle at which the folder presents the waistband to the sewing zone can be altered whereby to give shapes that are not of constant curvature. The folder may be mechanically linked using, for example, a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder arrangement, to a knee-switch or foot-switch, to enable different degrees of curvature to be achieved at the operator's control.
La présente invention concerne un procédé pour attacher une ceinture à un vêtement. Ce procédé consiste à disposer d'une bande (26) de tissu de ceinture présentant des parties externes plus extensibles que la partie centrale, puis à présenter ce tissu à une machine à coudre, à travers un guide ourleur (18), afin de le fixer à un vêtement. Cette invention est caractérisée en ce que le guide ourleur est incliné par rapport à la zone de couture (16), afin de forcer les parties externes de la bande de ceinture à être traitées plus rapidement que la partie centrale, formant ainsi une courbe lors de la fixation au vêtement. Etant donné que la bande ne présente pas de forme jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit traitée selon cette invention, elle peut se trouver sur une bobine afin d'assurer un fonctionnement continu. L'angle selon lequel le guide ourleur présente la ceinture à la zone de couture peut être modifié afin de donner des formes de courbure non constante. Le guide ourleur peut être relié mécaniquement, par utilisation, par exemple, d'un ensemble de vérin pneumatique ou hydraulique, à un commutateur à genou ou à pied, afin de permettre la réalisation de différents degrés de courbure au niveau de la commande de l'opérateur.
