ABSTRACT An applicator to dispense herbicides is disclosed. The applicator has an applicator head including a supply cavity to receive a supply of the herbicide to be dispensed, a delivery cavity from which the herbicide is dispensed to a wick or other dispensing material, and a valve automatically controlling the material flow from the supply cavity to the delivery cavity. The valve is maintained by gravity in a closed position when the applicator is not used. During use of the applicator, movements which are sufficient to overcome the gravity force acting on the valve will automatically move the valve to an open position permitting herbicide to flow from the supply cavity to the delivery cavity. Dripping of herbicide from the applicator when not in use is thus prevented. The applicator is easily manufactured and of cost efficient construction.
