ABSTRACT An aqueous, alkaline cleaning composition comprising on a weight basis up to about 5% of an alkali metal halogenite; from about 0.01 to about 3% of a dye normally chemically incompatible with said halogenite in aqueous media, and a stabilizer which is ammonium hydroxide, said stabilizer being present in the composition in an amount effective to stabilize the composition as evidenced by a substantial absence of chlorine dioxide in the composition.
