A predominantly aqueous composition for plasticising or softening paint, varnish and similar coatings prior to stripping the coating from a surface includes preferably a combination of the active agents (a1) triethylphosphate and (a2) a co-agent selected from dimethyl adipate, 1,2,3-propanetriol triacetate, tri-n-butyl citrate, n-octyl acetate, methyl octanoate and 2-ethyl-1-butanol, as an emulsified hydrophobic phase in which the actives are partitioned between the hydrophobic and aqueous phases. The emulsion is preferably stabilised using a non-ionic water-soluble block copolymer surfactant, being a copolymer of more than one alkylene oxide. The composition may be thickened using a theology control agent. Synthetic smectic clays such as Laponite RD (TM) are particularly suitable. The composition is non-toxic and consists predominantly of water, and yet exhibits effective paint, varnish and lacquer plasticising/softening characteristics.
Composition à prédominance aqueuse servant à plastifier ou à ramollir la peinture, le vernis ou des revêtements de ce type avant de décaper la surface qu'ils recouvrent. Cette composition comprend, de préférence, une combinaison des agents actifs (a1) triethylphosphate et (a2) un agent associé sélectionné parmi diméthyladipate, 1,2,3-propanetrioltriacétate, tri-n-butylcitrate, n-octylacétate, méthyloctanoate et 2-éthyl-1-butanol, en tant que phase hydrophobe émulsionnée dans laquelle les agents actifs sont séparés entre les phases hydrophobe et aqueuse. Cette émulsion est, de préférence, stabilisée au moyen d'un tensioactif de copolymère bloc soluble dans l'eau et non ionique, à savoir un copolymère possédant plus d'un oxyde d'alkylène. Cette composition peut être épaissie au moyen d'un agent de régulation de rhéologie. Les argiles smectiques synthétiques, telles que Laponite RD (TM), sont particulièrement appropriées. Cette composition est non toxique, est constituée en majeure partie par de l'eau et cependant présente des caractéristiques efficaces de ramollissement et de plastification de la peinture, du vernis et de la laque.
