Aqueous compositions of sizing agents which are hydrophobing cyclic dicarboxylic acid anhydrides or alkyl ketene dimers. The compositions comprise an amphoteric polymer which is amphoteric starch or an amphoteric acrylamide based polymer and a polyaluminium coupound.
