27293-7 ABSTRACT A method of preparing aqueous electrocoating baths, and the electrocoating system thereby obtained is described. In this process the basic amine catalyst used to catalyse a reaction between a polyepoxide and a polyhydroxy compound is neutralized, either in the process or before addition to it with an acid having PKS value of less than 3.7, for example salicylic acid. This technique provides electrocoating baths with lower chlorine ion contents than conventional processes.
