There is provided an aqueous foamable composition having a delayed foaming action on expulsion from a pressurised container, the composition comprising: (a) a major amount by weight of water, (b) a foaming agent in the form of a water-immiscible liquefied gas; (c) at least one foam-stabilising and emulsifying surfactant and (d) a water- soluble polymer. The compositions of the invention are of particular use for rectal or vaginal administration of pharmaceuficals. For medical use, the composition will also contain a pharmaceutically active ingredient. If desired, a muco-adhesive ingredient may also be included. Conventional additives for pharmaceutical compositions are optionally also present.
On décrit une composition aqueuse moussante à pouvoir moussant retardé lors de son expulsion d'un récipient sous pression. Elle comprend: (a) une quantité prédominante d'eau, calculée en poids; (b) un agent moussant tel qu'un gaz liquéfié non miscible avec l'eau; (c) au moins un agent tensioactif stabilisant et émulsionnant la mousse; et (d) un polymère hydrosoluble. Ce type de composition se prête particulièrement à l'administration rectale ou vaginale de substances pharmaceutiques. En cas d'utilisation médicale, il contient aussi un ingrédient pharmacologiquement actif. Le cas échéant, on peut aussi lui ajouter un ingrédient adhérant aux muqueuses, ainsi que des additifs conventionnels destinés aux compositions pharmaceutiques.
