AQUEOUS FREE RADICAL EMULSION POLYMERIZATION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the aqueous emulsion free radical polymeriza- tion of dienes and copolymerization of dienes and vinyl monomers using mercaptan modifiers there is added at at least 75% conversion a large amount of mercaptan modifier as com- pared to that previously added and the polymerization is stopped at about 90-99+% conversion to provide processable polymers having a reduced amount of or no gel.
