A system (10) and method for the identification of the fuel (24) being transported within a fuel delivery system of an internal combustion engine (22) that may utilize an advanced fuel (24) such as a fuel in water emulsion is provided. The identification of the fuel (24) is accomplished using a fuel identification sensor (20) that distinguishes the fuel type based on differences in optical properties, electrical properties, physical properties, or other characteristics between an aqueous fuel emulsion and a conventional fuel (24). The disclosed fuel identification device is readily incorporated in an anti- tampering device for preventing the use of a conventional fuel (24), such as diesel fuel, in an engine (22) designed and certified for aqueous fuel emulsions.
L'invention porte sur un système (10) et un procédé d'identification du carburant (24) circulant dans le système de distribution de carburant d'un moteur (22) à combustion interne pouvant fonctionner avec un carburant nouveau (24) tel qu'une émulsion aqueuse de carburant. L'identification du carburant (24) se fait à l'aide d'une sonde (20) classant le type de carburant en fonction de ses propriétés optiques, électriques, physiques et autres en émulsion aqueuse de carburant ou en carburant classique (24). Le dispositif d'identification de carburant de l'invention s'intègre facilement dans un dispositif anti-erreurs de manipulation interdisant l'emploi d'un carburant classique (24), par exemple du carburant diesel, dans un moteur (22) conçu et homologué pour les émulsions aqueuses de carburant.
