Abstract of the disclosure: An aqueous polyvinyl ester dispersion having a solids content of 35 to 65 weight % and containing 3 to 12 weight % (rela- tive to the total amount of dispersed particles) of polyvinyl alcohol and 2 to 70 weight % (relative to the total amount of dispersed particles) of a natural starch has excellent adhesive properties. It is manufactured by emulsion poly- merization of a vinyl ester optionally together with comono- mers, and by subsequent distribution of the starch in the dispersion obtained by the emulsion polymerization. The dispersion is especially suitable for the manufacture of adhesives for porous substrates.
