The invention concerns an aqueous colloidal dispersion of rare earth phosphate isotropic particles, characterised in that it comprises either a complexing medium having a pK (cologarithm of the dissociation constant of the complex formed by the complexing agent and said rare earth) higher than 2.5, or a water-soluble monovalent acid anion having a pK ranging between 2.5 and 5, or still the complexing agent and/or said monovalent acid. When the rare earth is cerium and lanthanum, the particles have an average size of not more than 20 nm. The dispersions can have a colloid agglomeration rate of less than 40 %. Said dispersion can be prepared by forming an aqueous mixture comprising at least a rare earth salt and the complexing agent or the monovalent acid anion, adding to the resulting mixture a base of phosphate ions, heating the resulting medium, thereby obtaining a precipitate which is re-dispersed in water.

L'invention concerne une dispersion colloïdale aqueuse de particules isotropes de phosphate de terre rare et elle est caractérisée en ce qu'elle comprend soit un complexant présentant un pK (cologarithme de la constante de dissociation du complexe formé par le complexant et ladite terre rare) supérieur à 2,5; soit un anion d'un acide monovalent, soluble dans l'eau et présentant un pKa compris entre 2, 5 et 5, soit encore le complexant et/ou l'anion de l'acide monovalent précité. Dans le cas du cérium et du lanthane, les particules présentent une taille moyenne d'au plus 20nm. Les dispersions peuvent présenter un taux d'agglomération de colloïdes inférieur à 40%.Cette dispersion peut être préparée en formant un mélange aqueux comprenant au moins un sel de terre rare et le complexant ou l'anion de l'acide monovalent; en ajoutant au mélange formé une base puis des ions phosphates; en chauffant le milieu ainsi obtenu. On obtient un précipité qui est redispersé dans l'eau.
