2130178 9318865 PCTABS00025 This invention is directed to an environmentally safe, water soluble stripping composition which contains a solution of water, a water soluble ester containg from 4 to 10 carbon atoms and an amount of hydrogen peroxide or compounds which generate hydrogen peroxide in situ; which peroxide concentration is not in excess of 30 wt. % of the water/ester composition. The invention also concerns the use of this biodegradable composition in a process for stripping organic coatings such as paints and resins from substrates.
