Disclosed are (1) an aqueous thermoplastic coating composition for coating plastics substrates, the composition consisting essentially of: (A) an aqueous acrylic resin and (B) a urethane resin emulsion, the component (B) being a self-emulsifiable urethane emulsion prepared by subjecting a urethane prepolymer to reaction for chain extension by water and emulsification after or during neutralization of the urethane prepolymer with a tertiary amine, the urethane prepolymer consisting essentially of (i) an aliphatic and/or an alicyclic diisocyanate, (ii) a polyether diol and/or polyester diol both having a number-average molecular weight of about 500 to about 5000, (iii) a low-molecular weight polyhydroxyl compound and (iv) a dimethylolalkanoic acid in NCO/OH equivalent ratio of 1.1-1.9 : 1, the amount of the component (A) being about 1 to about 12% by weight and the amount of the component (B) being about 99 to about 88% by weight, based on the combined weight (calculated as solids) of the two components; and (2) a two-coat coating method for coating a plastics substrate, the method comprising the steps of coating a plastics substrate with a base-coat composition containing a coloring pigment and/or metallic pigment, applying a clear coat composition to the cured or uncured coating for forming a transparent coating and curing the clear coating or the two coatings at the same time at a temperature lower than about 120°C, the method being characterized by the use of the aqueous thermoplastic coating composition as defined above in (1) as the base-coat composition.
On divulgue (1) une composition de revêtement thermoplastique aqueuse pour recouvrir des substrats de plastique, la composition étant constituée essentiellement : (A) d'une résine acrylique aqueuse et (B) d'une émulsion de résine d'uréthane, le constituant (B) étant une émulsion d'uréthane auto-émulsifiable préparée en soumettant un prépolymère d'uréthane à une réaction d'allongement de la chaîne par de l'eau et à une émulsification après ou durant la neutralisation du prépolymère d'uréthane avec une amine tertiaire, le prépolymère d'uréthane étant constitué essentiellement (i) d'un diisocyanate aliphatique et/ou alicyclique, (ii) d'un polyétherdiol et/ou d'un polyesterdiol ayant tous deux un poids moléculaire numérique moyen d'environ 500 à environ 5 000, (iii) d'un composé polyhydroxylé de faible poids moléculaire et (iv) d'un acide diméthylolalcanoïque dans un rapport équivalent NCO/OH de 1,1-1,9:1, la quantité de constituant (A) étant d'environ 1 à environ 12 % en poids et la quantité de constituant (B) étant d'environ 99 à environ 88 % en poids, par rapport au poids combiné (calculé sous forme de solides) des deux constituants; et (2) une méthode de revêtement à deux couches pour recouvrir un substrat de plastique, la méthode comprenant les étapes suivantes : recouvrir un substrat de plastique avec une composition de couche de fond contenant un pigment colorant et/ou un pigment métallique, appliquer une composition de couche transparente au revêtement durci ou non durci pour former un revêtement transparent et durcir la couche transparente ou les deux couches en même temps à une température inférieure à environ 120 degrés C, la méthode étant caractérisée par l'utilisation d'une composition de revêtement thermoplastique aqueuse telle que définie ci-dessus en (1) comme composition de couche de fond.
