Abstract of the Disclosure An arc gouging system including an arc gouging torch holding an electrode, a power supply including a contactor, a source of compressed gas, a cable for carrying electric current from the power supply to the torch for establishing an arc between the electrode and the workpiece and a conduit for delivering compressed gas from the compressed gas source to the torch, the torch including a gas valve for controlling the flow of gas through the torch, wherein a flow switch is mounted in the power supply and connected to the conduit, the flow switch being adapted to energize the contactor when the gas valve is open and to de-energize the contactor when the gas valve is closed. -1-
