ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A circuit interrupter having a stationary contact assembly and a movable contact assembly with a dielectric gas filled housing containing the stationary and movable contact assemblies. The stationary contact assembly includes an arc runner contact, an electrical coil and a circuit connection means for connecting the coil in series with the arc runner contact. The arc runner contact containing a generally flat conductive disk having an axis which is coaxial with the axis of the coil. The coil being disposed adjacent one surface of the arc runner contact and being in a plane parallel to the plane of the arc runner contact and being closely magnetically coupled to the arc runner contact. The movable contact assembly includes a generally cylindrical arcing contact which is coaxial with the arc runner contact and is movable into and out of contact with the surface of the arc runner contact. One of the arc runner contacts and the movable arcing contact consisting of an alloy of chromium copper to improve interruption capability.
