ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An are welding simulator incorporating a movable simulated welding puddle. A welding rod holder is manually manipulated by a trainee relative to the moving simulated weld puddle. A simulated welding rod in the welding rod holder is withdrawn at a rate simulating consumption of the welding rods. The distance between the end of the welding rod and the simulated puddle is detected and a feedback signal energized when the distance is out of preset limits.
