The present invention provides an architectural method and system for dividing a space by providing a beam of either coherent or non-coherent light, and passing the beam of light to a scanner which is adapted to output the light in a generally planar pattern which is used to create a visible division in the space. The invention may include means for generating a medium to render the light more visible.
