An ARCP three-point or multipoint converter is proposed, - having a series circuit comprising at least four main switches (S1...S8) per converter phase, which are connected electrically in parallel between a positive and a negative DC voltage rail (2, 4), - with an individual load-relief capacitance (C1...C8) being connected electrically in parallel with each individual main switch (S1...S8), - with two intermediate-circuit capacitances (CDC1, CDC2) of identical magnitude being arranged between the DC voltage rails (2, 4), the voltage neutral point (0) of which capacitances is available, - with the junction points (7,17,27,9,19,49) of respectively adjacent main switches (S1...S8) which do not at the same time form the output (10) of the converter phase being connected to one another via variable-potential intermediate-circuit capacitances for the purpose of forming commutation cells in a balanced manner with regard to the positive and negative DC voltage rails (2, 4), - with each variable-potential intermediate-circuit capacitance being divided into two capacitance elements (CDC3 and CDC4, CDC5 and CDC6, CDC7 and CDC8) of the same magnitude, whose junction points are available as voltage neutral points (1, 3, 5), - with the output (10) of the converter phase being connected to a resonant inductance (L aux), whose further connection is connected to all the voltage neutral points (0, 1, 3, 5) respectively via a dedicated independently controllable bidirectional auxiliary switch (S aux1, S aux2, S aux3, S aux4).
