ABSTRACT An armour piercing kinetic energy projectile having a pre-penetrator has flight diameter that is substantially uniform over its entire length. In a predetermined region of the pre-penetrator an arrangement of elements is provided which, in interaction with the material of a target plate, increases the diameter of the effective penetrating channel in a predetermined manner, compared with the flight diameter of the pre-penetrator. A first substantially funnel-shaped element is connected to an axially following penetrator part and its end of larger diameter has a circular-shaped cutting edge and lies in the firing direction. A predetermined number of the first elements can be joined together to form a stack carried by an axial connecting stud.
