ABSTRACT An armour piercing kinetic energy projectile has a core fabricated in a material having a predetermined high proportion of tungsten in metallic form. The forward section of the core is designed as a hemisphere and has a ballistic cap. The core extends over the entire cross section of the projec- tile and essentially over the entire length thereof, and has a large length/ diameter ratio. The hemispherical nose is intended for substantially direct contact with a respective target. This arrangement produces an extremely high specific surface pressure on impact and a correspondingly high penetrating capacity.
