Disclosed is a polyarylene having a sulfonic acid group, which has excellent workability and methanol resistance. Specifically disclosed is a polyarylene containing a constitutional unit (S) represented by the general formula (2-2) below and a constitutional unit (T) represented by the general formula (2-3) below. In this polyarylene, the ratio s of the constitutional unit (S) is 95-50 mol% and the ratio t of the constitutional unit (T) is 5-50 mol% (with s + t being 100 mol%). (2-2) (2-3) (In the formulae, A's independently represent a divalent linking group represented by -CO- or -SO2-, and R1-R4 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group.)

L'invention concerne un polyarylène possédant un groupe acide sulfonique, qui présente d'excellentes propriétés de transformabilité et de résistance au méthanol. L'invention concerne de manière spécifique un polyarylène contenant une unité constitutionnelle (S) représentée par la formule générale (2-2) et une unité constitutionnelle (T) représentée par la formule générale (2-3). Dans ledit polyarylène, le rapport s de l'unité constitutionnelle (S) est de 95-50 % molaire et le rapport t de l'unité constitutionnelle (T) est de 5-50 % molaire (s + t représentant 100 % molaire). Dans les formules, A représente indépendamment un groupe de liaison divalent représenté par -CO- ou -SO<SUB>2</SUB>-, et R<SUP>1</SUP>-R<SUP>4</SUP> représente indépendamment un atome hydrogène, un atome fluor, un groupe alkyle ou un groupe aryle.
