Abstract Aromatic Oligomers and Resins Compositions comprising an oligomer which is formed of the reaction of an aromatic compound, e.g., diphenyl oxide, with an aldehyde, e.g., formaldehyde and which (a) comprises the repeating unit (Ar - CHR), and where Ar is an aromatic group and R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group or hydrogen, (b) has pendant and/or terminal groups which include inter alia acyloxymethyl, hydroxymethyl and carboxyl, and (c) has a functionality between 0.5 and 10, and processes for the preparation thereof are described. These compositions may be used in dental, electrical and electronic applications.
