ABSTRACT Compounds of formula (I) Image (I) wherein: Ar is phenyl optionally substitituted in the o-, m- or p-position by C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, halo, C1-4 alkylthio or trifluoromethyl, 2-pyrryl optionally N-substituted by C1-4 alkyl, 2-furyl or 2-thienyl either being optionally substituted in the 3-, 4-, or 5- position by C1-4 alkyl, chloro or bromo, 3-furyl, or 3-thienyl; R1 is hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, fluoro, bromo or chloro; and X is CH2 and either Y is CO, CHOH, CH(OCOR2) or C(OR3)OR4, and Z is CH3, or Y and Z together are C(OR5)=CH2 or C(OCOR5)=CH2, or X is CHOH, Y is CHOH or CO and Z is CH3, or X and Y together are CH=C(OR5) or CH=C(OCOR5) and Z is CH3, in which R2 is phenyl optionally subsituted in the o-, m- or p- position by C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy or halo, or is C1-7 alkyl optionally substituted by phenyl or amino, R3 and R4 are C1-4 alkyl or together are C2-3 polymethylene, and R5 is C1-4 alkyl having anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity.
