ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Included in a spring suspension system is a main spring for taking up a load or for supporting a mass. The spring is arranged on a unit consisting of inner and outer cylinders. A piston with an associated piston rod works in an incompressible fluid inside a working space formed by the inner cylinder. The piston rod is supported in a bearing which permits fluid to leak from the working space to a space at atmospheric pressure. A moving device is arranged inside a space between the outer and inner cylinders, in such a way that the main spring acts on one side and the incompressible medium on the other side. The main spring is thus used as a compression spring for the fluid. The moving device is equipped with a valve, via which fluid from the space under pressure can be fed into the space beneath the piston when low pressure occurs inside that space.
