ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for automatically energizing and de- energizing a parking light responds to both the ambient brightness and the brightness of incident light from a sources, e.g. headlamps, moving relative thereto. The signal produced by an optical sensor is utilized in a com- parator circuit for comparing the ambient brightness with a predetermined brightness threshold and is additionally supplied to another comparator circuit which determines occurring dark-bright transitions. The latter comparator circuit will energize the light only if the actual ambient brightness does not exceed the predetermined brightness threshold.
