Abstract In an arrangement for controllably driving an A.C. motor (M) with regulatable D.C. voltage (Ui) and the frequency of an inverse rectifier (7) that follows the existing value of said D.C. voltage, a braking circuit is associated with at least one phase. The braking circuit comprises a brake resistor (R) between a phase connection (13) and a brake connection (14) which is arranged between two brake switching elements (Es7, Es8) disposed in series between the supply lines (5, 6). In this way, one can reduce the transition period when a smaller desired value is set for the regulatable D.C. voltage. Fig. 1.
