ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A plant guard for protecting plants against attack from insects is made of light flexible material in the form of a hose having a first portion intended to surround a lower part of a plant above ground and a second portion intended to surround the plant beneath the surface of the ground. The first hose portion arranged to decompose in an atmospheric environment over a time period of a few years, while the second hose portion is arranged to decompose in soil in a much shorter space of time. The guard is applied to a plant by an applicator tube secured to an elongate ground support which is inserted into the ground.
