ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A drying part of a paper making machine or the like, of the type wherein the dried web passes over a lower series of blow boxes generating a drying air cushion for supporting the web. Disposed above the lower blow boxes is a set of upper blow boxes for introducing additional drying air, the upper blow boxes being disposed in a transverse zig-zag pattern, the upper blow boxes being supplied by hot air alternatively from the respective sides of the run of the web, with suction compartments being disposed between adjacent upper blow boxes. The invention results in an improved air flow pattern as the suction compartments are unobstructed. It also facilitates cleaning of the drying part at the occurrence of break of the web or the like.
