ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a coding arrangement in which each count of a ring counter corresponds to a key of a keyboard and is transmitted as a coded da- ta character in response to a transfer pulse produced upon actuation of the respective key, hybrid characters are each assigned a respec- tive key and upon actuation of such key the transfer pulse produced is suppressed and is replaced by a plurality of consecutive transfer pulses produced at times when the ring counter has counts correspond- ing to the consecutive coded characters which are required to repre- sent the hybrid character. Thus a hybrid character, e.g. the letter ?, is represented as the consecutive coded letters ae in response to actuation of a single key of the keyboard which key can have only a single contact gap associated therewith.
