ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to an arrangement for selectively covering the free surface of a body of liquid to protect the liquid against pollution or heat loss or gain, and/or to protect the environment from pollution by the liquid. The arrangement comprises a continuous flexible sheet of substantially uniform thickness, a spool or drum onto which the flexible sheet can be wound when inoperative, winding means for winding the flexible sheet onto the spool or drum, the said flexible sheet being of sandwich-like construction comprising two water impervious membranes with a porous core material there-between. The arrangement thus allows the free surface of the liquid to be selectively covered by the sheet.
