ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A barking machine having a hollow rotor through which logs to be barked are fed is provided with arms which are pivotally mounted on the rotor and which carry barking tools. Springs are used for bringing the barking tools into abutment with the log surfaces. According to the invention these springs comprise hysteresis-free gas springs arranged to work at a pressure above 25 bars.
