An arrester for an under oil transformer is connected between a primary bushing lead and an insulator/isolator penetrating the wall of a housing which encloses the oil, arrester, and transformer parts. A ground wire outside the housing is removably connected to the isolator which functions as a circuit disconnector. The ground wire is removed to open circuit the arrester so that the transformer may be tested without having to disable any parts in the housing. Responsive to an arrester failure, the ground wire is blown away to give a visual indication of the failure. The blowing away of the ground wire eliminates the need for the arrester to fail in an open circuit condition.

Un éclateur conçu pour un transformateur baignant dans l'huile raccorde un fil primaire gainé et un isolateur qui entre dans la paroi d'un logement dans lequel se trouvent l'huile, l'éclateur et les pièces du transformateur. Un fil de masse situé à l'extérieur du logement est rattaché de façon non permanente à l'isolateur qui agit comme coupe-circuit. Pour faire l'essai du transformateur, il suffit d'enlever le fil de masse et de mettre ainsi l'éclateur en circuit ouvert, sans qu'il soit nécessaire de mettre hors service aucune des pièces du logement. Lorsqu'il se produit une défaillance de l'éclateur, le fil de masse saute pour donner une indication visuelle de cette défaillance. Le fait que le fil de masse subisse une telle fusion élimine la nécessité pour l'éclateur de faire défaillance en circuit ouvert.
