A sporting or target arrow for a bow or cross bow is provided with a cap which covers the tip of the arrow. When the arrow is shot into a target or the like, only the cap remains embedded in the target; the arrow can be withdrawn and re-used undamaged. It is thus possible to use simple wooden targets, from which an arrow can be readily removed, rather than the expensive straw targets which are commonly used.
